The Harambee Starlets are gearing up for their international test as they are set to take on the Morocco Women’s National Team in two friendly matches during the November FIFA window in Morocco.
The first match is slated for Friday, November 29, 2024, with kickoff scheduled at 8 PM EAT, while the second clash will unfold on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 1:45 PM EAT.
The friendlies are crucial for Starlets as they aim to build on their recent performances in the Pink Ladies Tournament in Turkey and gain valuable experience against a top-tier African opponent.
Morocco, fresh off an impressive showing at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, presents a formidable challenge that will test Kenya’s mettle on the international stage.
The Kenyan squad is set to depart for Morocco on November 26, 2024, both matches will take place at the Mohammed VI Football Complex.
At the same time, he Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has unveiled the list of nominees for the women’s categories for the 2024 CAF Awards and Kenya has featured in the Player, National Team, and Coach of the year categories.
The Junior Starlets, Kenya’s U17 women’s team, have been nominated for the Women’s Team of the Year.
The recognition follows their historic qualification for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, the first Kenyan national team to ever reach the global stage. The team capped their maiden World Cup campaign with a memorable victory in their final group stage match against Mexico.
Valerie Nekesa, a standout performer for the Junior Starlets, has been nominated for the Young Player of the Year award. Her exceptional contributions on the field were instrumental in the team’s success. Adding to Kenya’s honors, Coach Mildred Cheche has been shortlisted for Coach of the Year. Coach Cheche made history as the first Kenyan coach to lead a team to a FIFA World Cup.
The ceremony is scheduled for December 16, 2024, in Marrakech, Morocco.
