The Mozzart Bet Cup final between Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and Kenya Police has been moved from Dandora Sports Ground to Ulinzi Sports Complex.
The final is scheduled for Saturday afternoon. The decision to move the final was due to the ongoing demonstrations.
AFC Leopards will face Kariobangi Sharks in the third-place playoff on Saturday at 11 am, followed by the grand finale between Kenya Police and KCB at 2 pm.
KCB secured a spot in the finals after winning 4-2 on penalties against Kariobangi Sharks, following a 1-1 draw in regulation time. Meanwhile, Kenya Police earned their place in the finals by defeating AFC Leopards 1-0.
The winning team will claim the Mozzart Bet Cup, a KES 2 million cash prize, and the opportunity to represent the country in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
Kenya Police coach Salim Babu is eyeing his first silverware with the law enforcers.
“Having missed the FKF Premier League title, our focus now is the league cup and the chance to represent the country at the continental level,” said Babu.
The tactician admitted that the game against the Bankers will be tough.
Babu added: “We have trained and I believe we are ready for the tough task ahead.”
Kenya Police, KCB, Tusker, and FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia have already been granted licenses by the Football Kenya Federation’s First Instance Body (FIB) to participate in continental football.
The four clubs successfully met the CAF Club Licensing requirements for the upcoming 2024-2025 CAF Men’s Interclub Competitions. All clubs that qualify for the CAF Inter Club competitions based on sporting merit must be granted a license before they can participate.
As a result, the four clubs were required to apply for their licenses through the CAF Club Licensing Online Platform (CLOP) by the June 13, 2024, deadline.
The clubs were evaluated on five criteria pillars: Sporting, Infrastructure, Personnel and Administration, Legal and Financial, and handed licenses upon scrutiny of the documents submitted by the FIB.
Last year, Gor Mahia missed a chance to participate in the continental showpiece after failing to meet club licensing requirements.
