Kenya Premier League side Sofapaka has demoted head coach Ezekiel Akwana.
Akwana will now serve as Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno’s assistant, the club announced on their social media accounts.
Otieno, a former Gor Mahia and KCB coach will be unveiled before their FKF Premier League clash against Bidco United on Sunday.
“We are pleased to inform our fans that in our bid to boost the squad and technical bench, we have appointed Zedekiah Zico Otieno as our head coach.
He will be assisted by Ezekiel Akwana. He will be unveiled officially on Sunday,” said a club statement.
Zico was one of the candidates interviewed by struggling Shabana management but they did not agree on terms.
Zico faces a herculean task to lift Batoto Ba Mungu from the 17th position on the log. The club has garnered 14 points from 16 games.
At the same time, Mara Sugar will on January 5 unveil their head coach, according to the team manager Thomas Mboya.
“We completed all the formalities and we shall unveil him on Thursday,” said Mboya. The new coach will take over from Vincent Nyaberi who called it quits after two games in charge.
According to sources former APS Bomet, Mombasa Elite, and Mwatate United coach Benedict Wanjala is expected to be unveiled by the cane millers.
Nyaberi joined Yatta-based Mully Children’s Family (MCF). Nyaberi has reportedly quit MCF after three games and joined Nairobi United.
Nyaberi was on the bench when Nairobi United beat Micheal Olunga Foundation Academy (MOFA) 2-0 in a friendly match on Sunday at Sameta grounds in Kisii.
