Uganda triumphed over Kenya in a closely contested women volleyball match, which was also the first competitive game of the 14th Edition of East Africa Community Inter-Parliamentary Games held on Sunday at the Aga Khan Academy grounds.
The time out had a positive effect with Kenya keeping the contest close. The game was characterized by a back and forth stance with both countries exchanging points of score.
Despite the spirited efforts put up by the Kenyan team, the Women Volleyball team failed to upset their competitors in the three sets played.
Uganda clinched the victory after three thrilling sets, winning 25-19, 25-16 and 25-14.
The match however exemplified the spirit of regional integration and camaraderie that often defines the annual games.
Kenya’s team captain, Hon. Faith Gitau, emphasized the importance of the event in fostering unity and integration among East African nations.
“These games are not just about competition, they are about building bridges and strengthening the bonds of friendship among us as East Africa parliamentarians,” she said.
Uganda’s captain, Hon. Hellen Nakimuli, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the event’s unique ability to unite legislators through sports.
“The East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games provide an opportunity for us to connect beyond legislative chambers, promoting collaboration and mutual understanding,” she remarked.
The volleyball match, just like the entire tournament, served as a reminder of the unifying power of sports, underscoring the shared vision of a more integrated East African Community.
