The Royal Nairobi Golf Club (RNGC) is proud to host the100thedition of the prestigious Tannahill Shield Golf Tournament this Easter weekend, from April 18th to 20th, 2025.

This milestone event marks a century of golfingexcellence, tradition, and sportsmanship in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Tannahill Shield is one of the oldest and most esteemed amateur golf tournaments in the region, having been a cornerstone of the Kenyan golfing calendar since its inception in 1924.

The 2025 edition holds special significance as it commemorates 100 years of uniting top amateur golfers in spirited competition.

“We are incredibly proud to host the centenary edition of the Tannahill Shield,” said Royal Nairobi Golf Club Captain Willy Mastamet.

“This tournament embodies the rich history and enduring spirit of golf inKenya, and we look forward to a spectacular celebration of this milestone,” said Mastamet.

Originally founded by Major Arthur Tannahill, the tournament began as an annual event with teams representing Nairobi Golf Club, Mombasa, Nyeri, Kiambu, Nakuru, and Muthaiga Golf Club, competing over the Easter weekend.

Renowned for its unique format—three-way competitive foursomes matchplay—theTannahill Shield remains the only tournament of its kind globally, further cementing it’s iconic status. To celebrate this historic centenary, RNGC has extended special invitations toRoyal Golf Clubs across the world, including Royal Harare Golf Club and Kampala Golf Club, to participate in the festivities.

This year’s lineup features a stellar group of participating clubs: Royal Nairobi Golf Club, Mombasa Golf Club, Muthaiga Golf Club, Western Tannahill Team, Limuru Country Club, Vet Lab Sports Club, Kenya Railways Golf Club, Sigona Golf Club, Windsor Golf & Country Club.

The centenary celebration also sees the return of the Tannahill Seniors Trophy—nowin its third edition—open to golfers aged 55 and above. Muthaiga Golf Club claimed victory in the first two editions.
