National Olympic Committee President Paul Tergat has congratulated Humphrey Kayange on his appointment as Chair of the IOC Coordination Commission for Dakar 2026.

“On behalf of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K), I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Humphrey Kayange, OGW, on his appointment as Chair of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Coordination Commission for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games,” said Tergat.

He said the appointment is a proud and historic moment for Team Kenya and the Olympic Movement across the continent.

“Kayange, an Olympian, Member of the IOC, Chair of the NOC-K Athletes’ Commission, and the Male Athlete Representative on the Executive Board, has demonstrated an exceptional track record of leadership and service, both on the field and beyond it,” he added.

Tergat said Kayange’s elevation to this role, previously held by the IOC President-Elect, Kirsty Coventry, reflects the growing confidence in African leadership at the highest levels of sport.

“It is also a fitting recognition of his commitment to the values of Olympism and athlete empowerment. Dakar 2026 represents more than just a sporting event—it is a historic milestone, as Africa prepares to host its first-ever Olympic Games,” noted Tergat.

The Youth Olympic Games will serve as a powerful stage for young African athletes to showcase their talent, resilience, and spirit to the world.

“We at NOC-K are deeply honoured by this milestone and reaffirm our full support to Mr. Kayange as he takes on this important responsibility. As Team Kenya, this appointment only strengthens our resolve to deliver an outstanding performance at Dakar 2026. Humphrey, my brother, we are proud of you. I look forward to walking this journey with you and supporting your leadership as you steward these historic Games for our continent,” concluded Tergat in a statement.
