RAILA ODINGA OUTLINES VISION FOR AFRICAN UNION LEADERSHIP, PROMISES UNITY AND DEVELOPMENT

Today, the former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga made a major address of his vision for the chairperson role at the African Union Commission, assured of transformative leadership and committed to the unity of the continent.
While speaking during the unveiling ceremony in Nairobi, Odinga maintained that addressing the development of Africa and the key challenges facing the continent will be high on the agenda during his tenure.
Odinga began his speech with calls for unity and progress, “today, I stand before you with a profound sense of responsibility and commitment. Africa is at a crossroads, and it is our collective duty to steer it towards greater unity, stability, and prosperity.”
He went ahead to make his intentions known, should he take over the mantle of AUC chairperson.
“My vision for the African Union is one of strong, inclusive leadership. I believe in an Africa where economic growth is shared, where every citizen has access to opportunities, and where our rich cultural diversity is a source of strength.”
Odinga also touched on a number of important issues he wants to resolve:
‘We need to strengthen our efforts towards economic integration. This means removal of barriers to trade, encouraging regional partnerships and huge investments towards infrastructures that link our nations.
He spoke also about peace and security, “conflicts and instability undermine our progress. As AUC chair, I am going to work day and night to mediate conflicts and support peacebuilding initiatives across the continent. Stability is the foundation upon which our development must be built.”
“I am aware of the formidable candidates I am up against, each bringing valuable angles to the discussion table. But I am confident that my experience and vision uniquely place me among the candidates well-suited for the task of leading the African Union towards brighter climes.”
He concluded by imploring leaders and citizens across the continent to work together: “We have to seize this opportunity together so that we can shape our destiny as a people. We need to work together for a prosperous and peaceful Africa. With your support, I am committed to leading with integrity, dedication, and a clear focus on our shared goals.”.
The event marked a milestone in Raila’s quest to be the AUC Chairperson and cements him into the list of front runners in the race to lead Africa Region.
