RUTO SHOWERS RAILA WITH PRAISES AS BEST CANDIDATE FOR AFRICA UNION CHAIRMANSHIP

The President of the Republic of Kenya William Ruto today unveiled opposition chief Raila Odinga as Kenya’s candidate to vie for the position of the chairperson of the African Union Commission AUC.

The event, that was held at State House in Nairobi, saw President Ruto together with who is who in the dignitaries attending to support the candidature of Odinga into this influential position.

“Today is a great day for Kenya and for Africa as well,” shared President Ruto as he addressed the gathering. We are here to endorse Raila Odinga in his candidacy for the position of chairperson of the African Union Commission. This is in support of the strides to be made in the process that evidences our commitment to strengthen African leadership and the unity of the continent.”

Ruto pointed out the immense experience of Odinga and his long-time commitment to the cause of African development.

“Raila Odinga has given decades to the issues of democracy, development, and regional integration. He has been at the front of affairs that have addressed very critical issues, and his vision is clearly within our frameworks for a prosperous Africa.”

The President had pointed to the key role the AUC chairperson should play in shaping the future of Africa.

“The African Union Commission has a key role in driving our continent’s agenda forward. We need an experienced leader with deep commitment to the values of peace, progress and unity.”

Ruto now called on the other African countries to support the biding of Odinga.

“We should therefore join the rest of the African countries, leaders and citizens in supporting Raila’s candidature. This is a Kenyan affair but with a continental chair, and our collective standing with him will double our chances and expand and strengthen our influence in the continent.”

He noted, too, the broader implications of the election for Africa’s future.

“Raila Odinga’s leadership will be important to address our shared challenges and seize new opportunities for growth and development. We are assured his candidature will bring Africa Union closer to the people.”

The event was a strategic step in the campaign of Odinga to become the AUC chairperson and was emphatically endorsed by President Ruto as a front-runner for the leadership of the African Union Commission.
