Fire fighters at Hillside Endarasha Academy .

President William Ruto, his deputy Rigathi Gachagua, and opposition leader Raila Odinga joined those sending condolences following a fire that swept through Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri, claiming at least 17 lives.

President Ruto sent a message saying, “Our thoughts are with the families of the children who have lost their lives in the fire tragedy at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri County. This is devastating news. We pray for a speedy recovery for the survivors.”

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also conveyed his condolences: “We pray for a quick recovery of the survivors of this inferno. May God grant the families the fortitude to bear the loss. We ask schools to enforce safety and security measures as outlined by the Ministry of Education and other agencies to avert such incidents.”

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta added his condolences, saying, “No words can describe the grief over the loss of young, vibrant lives full of promise and hope for the future. My thoughts are with the families that lost their children and the school community deeply traumatized by this tragedy of unimaginable proportions. May the Almighty give you strength, comfort, and peace as you endure this loss.”

Raila Odinga also expressed his sympathy: “My thoughts and heartfelt condolences go to the families, friends, and school community that have lost loved ones in the tragic fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy. May God give them strength at this time and a speedy recovery to those injured.”

Second Lady Pastor Dorcas Rigathi was equally grief-stricken: “Hearts across the nation are torn asunder following the devastating news of the loss of 16 precious young souls and many more injured and scarred in the inferno at Hillside Academy, Endarasha, Kieni Constituency.”

Sports CS Kipchumba Murkomen also offered his condolences: “I am deeply saddened by the terrible news this morning of a fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy, Kieni, that claimed the lives of at least 16 pupils. My thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends, and the entire school community over this tragic loss.”

National Police Service Spokesperson Resila Onyango confirmed that police teams had been deployed to assist with rescue operations as investigations continue.
