Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua urged leaders to listen to the Kenyans who elected them. He stated that Kenyans have a say in what leaders should do.

“Mimi naambia viongozi sikizeni ground,” Gachagua said. “Wanasema ati mimi nawatisha lakini nawaambia tu ukweli kwa sababu mimi ni mzee na ni kiongozi.”

He warned that ignoring public opinion could lead to serious consequences. “Nawaambia hawa wasiposikiza ground watakosana na wale ambao wamewaandika kazi watawafukuza,” he added.

Gachagua spoke during the consecration service at ACK St Patrick’s Church in Kayole. He emphasized that leaders must understand how people want to be led. “I want to encourage leaders in the country to please listen to the people,” he reiterated.

The DP acknowledged that his straightforwardness has sometimes been misunderstood. “Some leaders have taken issue with my honesty,” he noted. “But being truthful is important.”

He said that Kenyans are now more aware and informed. “Kenyans are now woke. The internet has sharpened them,” he declared.

Gachagua stressed that deception is no longer acceptable. “The time for cheating them is over,” he asserted. “Kenyans are intelligent and they know everything.”

He aligned himself with the demand for honesty from leaders. “Kenyans expect nothing short of truthfulness,” he stated.

He urged leaders to embrace forgiveness. “Let us continue to accept mistakes and forgive each other,” he advised. “If you make a mistake, ask for forgiveness and correct it.”

Gachagua recounted making mistakes before the 2022 elections. “We realized our mistakes and asked for forgiveness,” he said. “People who ask for forgiveness have a lighter heart.”

He called for servant leadership and respect for Kenyans. “We must work for them,” he urged. “Do not threaten, harass, or look down upon them. Exercise humility and listen with empathy.”
