NAIROBI, Wednesday, 9/11/2024 – A return-to-work formula has been reached between KAA, Kenya Airways PLC, and the Kenya Aviation Workers Union, KAWU. This is after a meeting that was chaired by the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Hon. Davis Chirchir.
Those present included Dr. Francis Atwoli, Secretary General of COTU, and senior representatives from KAA, Kenya Airways, and KAWU.
Under the following terms, the parties have agreed to go back to work:
1. KAA and Kenya Airways will look into the documents presented by KAWU within 10 working days and discuss areas of concern together with the Government.
2. Other meetings shall be convened immediately after the review period.
3. The union shall be involved in all future negotiations and no agreement shall be signed without the concurrence of the union.
4. KAA and Kenya Airways management have committed to hastening the CBA process within a period of two months.
5. There shall be no victimization of employees and employers due to the strike action pulled recently and court case against KAWU in respect to the strike notice to be withdrawn.
The agreement was signed by KAA Acting Managing Director Henry Ogoye, Kenya Airways CEO Allan Kilavuka and KAWU General Secretary Moss Ndiema.
The Government has pressed the matter before the courts, pledging that all relevant information will be brought out to clarity and understanding of the issue.
This agreement follows from a strike by aviation workers that commenced today midnight, disrupting services at the airports and later strained relations between the union and management. This settlement marks the first major step towards normality within the aviation industry
