Morara Kebaso at Milimani Law Courts today

Activist Morara Kebaso has been released on Sh50,000 cash bail with one contact person required in his cyber harassment case at Milimani Law Courts.

Morara appeared before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina. The magistrate is to rule on October 4 on whether the activist has a case to answer.

ODPP ordered the police to charge Kebaso with harassment. He is accused of damaging the reputation of Uasin Gishu businessman David Langat.

According to the charge sheet, Kebaso committed cyber harassment under Section 27 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, 2018.

He was accused of committing the offence on September 28, 2024, at a place unknown within the Republic of Kenya jointly with others not before the court.

ODPP says Kebaso accused Langat of financing President William Ruto’s campaigns with loans secured by his properties.

“William Ruto approached the businessman asking for campaign funds. Langat used his properties as collateral to secure large loans for his friend,” the charge sheet reads.

Kebaso’s lawyers, led by Ndegwa Njiru, opposed the charges, saying the charge sheet was defective for not disclosing the complainant.

Particulars must relate to the subject. The charge sheet is defective since it does not disclose the complainant. Is it Ruto or Langat?” Njiru asked.

The ODPP also wants to charge Kebaso for claiming that banks are auctioning off Langat’s properties. The activist claimed President Ruto is purchasing them at undervalued prices.

He was arrested at his office in Kahawa Sukari, Kiambu, yesterday evening. Kebaso is a social media enthusiast who has been exposing what he claims is corruption in public projects.

He was forcibly taken to Nairobi Regional Police headquarters before being freed later in the night.
