A Nairobi-bound bus, chania Executive mini bus Reg. No.KCF 236v, lost control and overturned at the mainland Likoni ramp on Saturday morning.
The bus is said to have at least six passengers on board. According to police report, the incident occurred at around 8.35am.
According to the Kenya Red Cross, nine people were injured in the incident. “Nine people were injured: seven were treated at the scene, while two were taken to the hospital,” the organization reported.
“The Kenya Red Cross also provided psychosocial support services to those affected,” they added.
Emergency services quickly responded to the scene. “Emergency services and recovery teams are currently on site to remove the vehicle from the operational area,” stated Kenya Ferry Services (KFS).
“Normalcy on the ramp will be restored soon,” KFS assured the public. However, they noted the bus had partially blocked the ramp, complicating the landing of two ferries currently in operation.
Passengers at the crossing expressed frustration. “We were stuck for over an hour. It’s concerning how often these accidents happen,” said one commuter.
KFS urged customers to remain patient. “We appreciate your understanding as we work to clear the ramp,” the ferry service stated.
As recovery efforts continue, the situation remains tense. Commuters are advised to keep an eye on updates from KFS.
The accident has sparked discussions on safety measures at the busy ferry crossing. “This incident highlights the urgent need for enhanced safety protocols,” said a local transport advocate.
As the ferry service works to resume normal operations, the community remains alert to the potential dangers posed by such accidents.
