Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to hold a press conference on Monday evening. The conference is scheduled for 7 PM at his official residence in Karen.

Gachagua’s office sent an invitation to media houses at noon. The address comes just hours before his impeachment motion is debated in the National Assembly.

The motion, introduced by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse on October 1, accuses Gachagua of serious offenses. Allegations include dividing Kenyans along ethnic lines.

Gachagua is also accused of undermining the presidency. “We need unity, not division,” Mutuse stated. “Our leaders should promote cohesion.”

Additional charges include violating the oath of office and contradicting the National Cohesion and Integration Act. Gachagua allegedly amassed Ksh.5.2 billion in property through corrupt means.

“Corruption has no place in our government,” Mutuse added. “We must hold leaders accountable.”

The motion gained momentum, securing support from 291 lawmakers in the National Assembly. It then proceeded to public participation across the 47 counties.

Gachagua has been facing increasing scrutiny. He has repeatedly denied the allegations against him. “I am committed to serving Kenyans with integrity,” he said in previous statements.

As the debate approaches, Gachagua unveiled a legal team led by seasoned lawyer Paul Mwite. Mwite will argue his case before MPs on Tuesday.

“We will demonstrate that these allegations are baseless,” Mwite asserted. “Our aim is to clear the Deputy President’s name.”

Gachagua’s supporters have rallied around him. “We stand with our Deputy President,” a supporter said. “This is a political witch hunt.”

Opponents argue that the impeachment motion is a necessary step. “Leadership demands accountability,” another MP commented. “No one is above the law.”
