The Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been summoned to the DCI headquarters on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

Director of Criminal Investigations Mohammed Amin addressed the seriousness of the weight that Gachagua’s allegations carry.

“These are serious allegations emanating from a person of his stature and cannot be taken lightly,” said Amin in a release signed by J. K. Marete.

DCI has invited Gachagua to its Mazingira Complex-Kiambu Road headquarters. They want a statement on record from him as they try to help in the investigations.

Marete said they were taking the matter with the seriousness it deserves. “We are aware of the sensitivity of these allegations and assure you that this matter shall be treated with the seriousness it deserves,” he added. “Your statement is an integral part of our investigation.”

Gachagua was invited following a press conference he gave on Sunday after his discharge from Karen Hospital, where he claimed there was a plot to eliminate him and mentioned two attempts to poison him.

On August 30, 2024, Gachagua narrated a shocking encounter in Kisumu. “Undercover security agents entered my room in Kisumu and banged it. One of them tried to poison my food, but we detected it,” he said. “I was supposed to be killed through poisoning.”

He gave another incident that occurred on September 3 in Nyeri. Gachagua said that one team from the National Intelligence Service attempted to poison food meant for him and the Kikuyu Council of Elders.

“I did report this matter to the National Intelligence Service and the officers who are assigned to my office,” he said. “I asked them to leave because I felt I was not safe after the two attempts.”

Gachagua says these were attempts related to the impeachment motion filed against him, and the DCI expects his statement to be crucial in unraveling the truth behind such serious allegations.
