On Tuesday evening, a fire broke out at Isiolo Boys High School. The Kenya Red Cross has responded to the incident and a ground team has been activated. The cause of the blaze is yet to be established.

The fire at Isiolo Boys breaks what seems to have been a disturbing trend. About three days ago, fire similarly razed Isiolo Girls High School. In the recent days, Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri was reduced to ashes by fire. Sadly, 21 pupils lost their lives in that accident.

The investigators work day and night to unravel the cause of the fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy. On Monday, President William Ruto held a crucial meeting with the Interior and Education ministries over the matter; he ordered the investigation concluded fast.

He also called for adherence to the school boarding regulations. President Ruto declared three days of national mourning for those victims who lost their lives in the Hillside Endarasha fire. He ordered that the flag of Kenya and the East African Community shall be flown at half-mast.

The flags shall be flown at half-mast from dawn on Monday, 9th September 2024, until sunset on Wednesday, 11th September 2024. This shall be done as a sign of respect at State House, all Kenyan diplomatic missions, public buildings, public grounds, military bases, naval vessels, and throughout Kenya.

These incidents have thrown the government on the spot concerning the issue of safety in schools. The current wave of fires has raised an alarm across the country. Investigations are still underway as authorities struggle to prevent more tragedies and ensure that the school environment is safe.
