Bore Reiterates Closure Deadline for Private Children’s Home - Kenyan News

The Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection, Hon. Florence Bore reiterated that private children’s homes must closed within a remaining grace period of 8 years, as mandated by the Children Act of 2022. 

Hon. Florence Bore speaking to the press at Kisii Children’s Home In Kisii County expressed appreciation for the private children’s homes for their efforts in caring for children but stressed that it is the government’s responsibility to provide care for children in government-run facilities.

Furthermore, she highlighted the government’s commitment to enhancing oversight of private children’s homes due to concerns that some of them are being used for child trafficking.

In a heartfelt appeal, Hon. Florence Bore called on the public not to abandon or dump children, urging the public to report any government officials who might be collaborating with child traffickers.

Additionally, Hon. Florence Bore noted that some of the abandoned children have gone on to achieve success in their careers, emphasizing the positive outcomes of providing care and support for vulnerable children.

The CS visited several locations, including Murang’a, Isiolo, Nakuru, and Nanyuki, as part of the Child Welfare Society of Kenya’s visiting program.
