Two brothers, Jamil and Aslay Longton, and activist Bob Njagi were found alive in Kiambu County. They disappeared during anti-government demonstrations in Kitengela on August 19, 2024.

According to Faith Odhiambo, president of the Law Society of Kenya, the Longton brothers were found dumped at the Gachie border of Kiambu and Nairobi.

“I am informed that Jamil and Aslay were dumped in the bush,” Odhiambo tweeted on X. “Every prayer made a difference. We thank God they are safe!!”

The brothers, in a video put out on social media, expressed their appreciation for the support they had gotten.

“We thank Kenyans for standing with us,” they said. “We found refuge at a home to charge our phones and reach our families.” They added that they would communicate through Odhiambo from now on.

Meanwhile, activist Bob Njagi was located in Tigoni. His father, Longman Njagi, confirmed the news during an interview with Hot 96 FM.

“I was called late in the night by officers from Tigoni police station. They told me my son was found alive,” he said. “We thank God for the news. We were on our knees praying. We are very grateful.”

The developments come after Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja stated that the National Police Service was not holding the three individuals.

“We are doing our investigations satisfactorily,” Kanja said. “There is nothing like detention for any illegal reasons.”

Members of the families and supporters of the brothers and Njagi were relieved they had come back safely, but questions about activism and safety for those persons remain.
