Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Adan Duale has ordered the immediate closure of Fay’s Bistro club in Kilimani, Nairobi, over noise violation.

This, Duale posted on X, underscored the gravity of the situation: “Let this be a stern warning to every club operating in residential areas,” he said. “Any that continue playing loud music will face the same action. This impunity shall not be entertained!”

This order follows a raid by Nairobi City County Government officials on Saturday evening. The raid followed numerous complaints over noise from the locals.

“These are NEMA officers attached to my office on the site, enforcing the closure. An ongoing operation in the county to see an end to noise pollution in residential areas,”.

The raid was reportedly carried out after the club management received repeated warnings over excessive noise. This closure comes just a month after Quivers Club Kilimani announced it would cease playing loud music.

“After the current development with the view from our neighbourhood and in the spirit of unity, environment conservation, and after numerous telephone conversations between our wonderful neighbours and our management, we would like to bring this milestone decision to the attention of the public,” Quivers Club said. “We are going to be the first club that will introduce a new concept of not playing music.”

Fay’s Bistro was situated close by such landmarks as the State House, among other highly important ones, and the Department of Defence, with residential areas in proximity. Residents are finally hopeful for a more peaceful environment in their neighborhood.
