Former East African Community and Regional Development CS Peninah Malonza has thrown her hat into the ring for the Kitui gubernatorial seat in the 2027 general election. She feels that her passion to lead the county is from the divine.

Malonza promised the people of Kitui better leadership. “This calling is overwhelming, and I cannot resist it,” she said. She described herself as a workaholic and top performer, urging the people of Kitui to elect her based on her track record.

“You are all aware of my excellent performance when I was the deputy governor of Kitui and when I held a top government job. I am a workaholic,” she said recently.

She told the gathering that her character record was clean, devoid of fraud or corruption cases. Malonza promised voters that when elected she would improve everybody’s living standards in Kitui. “I want to see Kitui county people and members of the Kamba community at large being viewed with respect and their living standards improved,” she declared.

Since she was relieved of her duties as CS by President William Ruto, Malonza has been engaging with the community especially through having meetings and distributing water tanks to vulnerable families in the county. The move underlines her service leadership.

Her remarks came Saturday during a prayer ceremony for Kitui at Ikutha chief’s camp in Kitui South. She observed that she is the third woman leader from Kitui to declare interest in the gubernatorial seat.
