The former Cabinet Secretary for Health, Susan Nakhumicha, spoke of her woes since she was sacked during the burial of the mother of the Governor of Bungoma, Ken Lusaka, on 18th October 2024.

Among others, Nakhumicha cited struggles since being ousted from office. She asked the audience to pray for her; times have been rough.

“You sleep as a CS, and wake up, you are not one,” Nakhumicha said. “We leave everything to God. Bishop, pray for me. It is not easy.”

She reflected on what exactly it was like to feel this sudden change from what had become a high-profile position: “You sleep as a Deputy President, and wake up you are not one. Suddenly you are just Nakhumicha.”

She said her rare name often reminds people of her former post. “You know my name is unique; when you mention it, many associate it with the Health CS. Pray for me.”

Despite this, Nakhumicha remained optimistic. “God has been good to me, and I am expecting good things to come my way soon. Bishop, pray for me.”

Her candid comments struck a chord among the hundreds of delegates present. They praised her for her defiance against tragedy. Nakhumicha’s observation of her ordeals really echoed the emotional burden of transitional politics.

Scores of dignitaries and members of the public attended the service. They converged to pay their last respects to the late mother of Governor Lusaka, who was beloved by people in the community.

Ms. Nakhumicha’s speech dwelled on her personal journey and the emotional complexities that face leaders after losing their positions. She appealed for prayers, showing the human side of political life.
