GACHAGUA REASSURES SUPPORT FOR CS OPARANYA
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reassured the Cabinet Secretaries Wycliffe Oparanya and Dr. Andrew Karanja concerning his commitment to reforms in the cooperatives movement and the agricultural sector.
This comes in support of the plan executed by the two CSs towards ensuring the rise in food production in the country and increasing farmers’ income.
However, Gachagua has said that the reforms at the moment must target the best in the tea and coffee sub-sectors without negatively impacting farmers.
Gachagua added he would closely work with the ministers for the Ministry of Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development for the Government to achieve its agricultural goals.
He was speaking Monday during a consultative inter-ministerial meeting hosted at the Official Residence in Karen, Nairobi with the two Ministers and other stakeholders.
The meeting had been convened to review the status update on reforms for tea and coffee.
The DP challenged the two CSs to involve the farmers in the reform agenda.
He indicated that Government is focused on policy changes, sustainable practices, and marketing of the crops.
“Food security is one of the pillars of Kenya Kwanza, and I encourage you to support the government in realizing it. Let us build a strong economy for a stronger country. The situation will change with ease if the two ministries work together. I will support you, and the availability of the Presidency will help you where you want,” he said.
“The purpose of calling this meeting is so that we can sit with the two new Cabinet Secretaries and go through the reforms exercise,” he added.
