

The Federal Ministry of Interior and Community in Germany denied the reports of a labor agreement with Kenya for 250,000 workers.
On the official visit to Germany, President William Ruto signed a labour and mobility agreement in Berlin, witnessed by Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Details of the agreement are not comprehensive, with no specific number of workers noted.
Media reports indicated that the deal would open up jobs for 250,000 Kenyans.
“This is, however, denied by Germany’s Ministry of Interior and Homeland on X, saying that the agreement with Kenya does not have numbers or quota for skilled workers to work in Germany.
“All applicants have to fulfill the strict demands of the German Immigration Act.
The Kenyan government has not formally responded or clarified the latest development.
The agreement highlights Kenya and Germany’s cooperation in ensuring fair mobility for skilled workers, students, and apprentices, including temporary migration for vocational education, training, employment, and seasonal work.
The governments committed to ethical recruitment, labor market information, and cooperation on consular services for skilled workers.

They agreed to address irregular migration, human trafficking, forced labor, and exploitation while protecting victims.
The deal will establish a Joint Implementation Committee with representatives from both countries to oversee execution.
The committee will comprise representatives from the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Labor, Immigration, and Education. President Ruto welcomed the agreement for the employment opportunities that it would create for Kenyans and the closer bonds between the nations. “The Comprehensive Labour Mobility Agreement will create employment opportunities for Kenyans, strengthening relations with Germany,” he said, while calling on Germany to exploit Kenya’s rich endowment of skilled labour.
