An Israeli air strike has reportedly killed at least 33 people, including 21 women, in a refugee camp in northern Gaza, according to Hamas-run authorities. The attack targeted Jabalia camp, which has been under siege for weeks.

Israel has not spoken about this incident. Casualties may further increase because a lot of people remain buried under the rubble. According to local sources, northern Gaza has been cut off, and telecommunications and internet services have been cut off.

A video published to social media appeared to show bodies wrapped in white shrouds lining the floor of al-Awda Hospital. Its director spoke of the overwhelming number of casualties: “Ambulance crews are still trying to retrieve the martyrs and wounded from Jabalia.” “Our wards in the hospital are completely full.”

The number killed in the Israeli bombardments has been put at 39 on Friday alone, many of them from Jabalia. An estimated 400,000 people remain trapped in the camp, facing acute shortages of food and water.

Georgios Petropoulos, chief of the UN’s Office for Humanitarian Assistance, spoke about the dire situation. “We can’t hit the alarm bell hard enough about how atrocious conditions are for civilians there,” he said. He spoke from Rafah, in southern Gaza.

US President Joe Biden said during a visit to Berlin that an opportunity might exist to work toward a cease-fire in Lebanon, but that doing so would be more difficult in Gaza. Biden met with German, French, and British leaders to debate the continuing violence.

Israel is insisting it has sent 30 lorries of supplies into northern Gaza, containing food and medical supplies, but local health officials said aid is not reaching the hardest-hit areas, such as Jabalia. The US has urged Israel to improve humanitarian access, warning it may affect military assistance.
