The ruling Kenya Kwanza party has unveiled a five-person team for cross-party negotiations with the Azimio One Kenya coalition of the opposition.
Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire will make up Kenya Kwanza’s team, according to a statement released on Tuesday.
Hassan Omar and Catherine Wambilianga were included as additional participants in the negotiations.
The IEBC’s reorganization and the application of the two-thirds gender rule are two of the five agenda topics that the Kenya Kwanza team intends to discuss with the Azimio coalition.
The establishment of the opposition leader’s official office, the entrenchment of the Constituency Development Fund, and the embedding of the Prime Cabinet Secretary’s office are other concerns that the Kenya Kwanza teams aim to bring up.
The Kenya Kwanza team said in the same statement that there will be no talk of any type about the “handshake” or “Nusu Mkate.”
The groundwork has now been laid for negotiations between the Kenya Kwanza government and the opposition with the announcement of the Kimani Ichungwah-led delegation on Wednesday.
