Kakamega Senator Boni Kwalwale has called on the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO Nancy Macharia to initiate talks with the striking teachers, with the aim of solving the issues raised by teachers that have paralysed learning especially in secondary schools.
Kakamega Senator has acknowledged a statement by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba that the government has set aside money to employ JSS teachers on permanent basis and implement the 2021-2015 CBA.
“Now that the CS for Education, Julius Ogamba, has announced release of Ksh18.7 billion and 13.5 billion for hiring of intern teachers and for implementation of the CBA on salary increment for teachers and for implementation of the CBA on salary increment for teachers respectively, we urge Nancy Macharia to swallow her pride and lead the TSC to sit with the striking teachers to work on an immediate return to work formula,” noted Khalwale.
His comments come after KUPPET insisted that secondary school teachers will continue with their industrial action to demand hiring of intern teachers and implementation of the CBA.
KNUT, the other teachers union that comprises mostly of primary school teachers, called of its planned strike, saying the government and TSC had shown goodwill to meet their concerns.
The two unions want the government to permanently employ at least 46,000 intern teachers, and promote 132,000 teachers
Teachers further want the employer to remit their deductions and implement the second phase of the 2012-2015 CBA.
