Former Senator Millicet Omanga and President WIlliam Ruto
Former Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has declined her appointment to the Nairobi Rivers Commission, which was announced on Friday by President William Ruto.
Omanga made the announcement in a statement on Saturday, citing personal reasons. She thanked Ruto for considering her for the appointment.
“It is truly a privilege to be considered for such an important role in improving our beloved Nairobi’s environment and public health,” she said.
“After due consideration, I hereby decline the appointment for personal reasons.”
This is despite Omanga insisting that she was willing to join the team in efforts towards restoring Nairobi rivers. “I am ready to contribute in whatever way in such an initiative so long as it aligns with my current commitments,” she said.
He was to assume the post that had been left by the former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, whose appointment to the commission had been challenged in court.
President William Ruto, in February 2023, launched the Nairobi Rivers Commission to deal with environmental and public health concerns about the city’s rivers.
