The safe house located in Kisii’s Nyanchwa Estate is run by Onsembe Community Based Organization (CBO). Esna Nyaramba, a humanitarian and human rights defender is the founder of the safe house.
The safe house accommodates both boys and girls and girls who are facing various challenges. Some are orphans, others have been abandoned while others are victims of violence and defilement. “Most of the kids we rescue are in various ages. Some are aged even less than a year old. Currently, we have kids who are attending primary, secondary schools while others are in college,” she said.
Recently, Minto Foundation board members Wycliffe Nyachae Ombui and Arasa Mose paid her a courtesy call where they donated food stuffs and other household goods for the children.
Nyaramba thanked Minto Foundation for being a pillar in her programs and life.
“When I started this rescue center, I never knew that one day I will have a team of well wishers who want to see other people happy. I started it because I knew there is somebody who needed a shoulder, a pillar and sister. Today I’m here with two brothers from Minto Foundation. I want to thank you what you have done for us as a family as a community living together,” she said.
She added: “There is a lot we have not done because of resources. Going forward, my dream is to have a home where these kids will get motherly love, medical attention, education, spiritual nourishment, guidance and counseling. I also want to have a resource center where gender based violence survivors’ women to have somewhere they will call home and at least get some skills so that they are empowered. They can have a future.”
Nyaramba said she will be among the attendants at Minto Foundation’s inaugural conference to be held in Dallas, USA on September 1 and 2.
“I’m proud, privileged and humbled to be among the first people to attend the conference. I pray that everybody coming to the conference comes with an expectation, with an open hand to receive and come with an open hand to give for a hand that gives, always receives,” she said.
Minto Foundation board member Wycliffe Nyachae Ombui hailed Nyaramba’s work. He said:“We do recognize the work she is doing it, it takes a big heart to do it. She is doing it alone with the support of fiends and well wishers but I know it’s a tall order and heavy weight on her shoulders. What she doing is in line with what Minto Foundation does our mission vision and objectives.”
“We see this as a good ground from where good things can spring and future solutions be found especially in the areas of creating safe houses, safe spaces for women and children who have been abused, those who have been orphaned and don’t have anyone to turn to. The goal is to be able to provide an all round solution and that is part of the aspirations we have as Minto Foundation. There is a lot we can do together,” he added.
Arasa Mose, also a board member of Minto Foundation said: “We came here with one objective mission is to seek collaboration. We believe that that everybody in Minto deserves an opportunity to succeed and make a social economic impact not for themselves only but also for the community. We also do need analysis, we focus on pillars like education, healthcare and community awareness. We also create networks that is why we came to Nyanchwa where Esna is doing amazing work with these kids.”
He added: “As Minto we are passionate and committed to support and make sure that her goals mission and objectives are elevated to where the needs she are fulfilled not only through Minto supporting but also opening doors and giving exposure and networks within ourselves. We believe in unity of purpose. We are laying ground and foundation to roll out our first ever conference on September 1 and 2 . We invite all to be part of it so that we can start by having the foundation and create the first step towards getting solutions on what affecting us as a community. ”
“On behalf of Minto, I want to thank Esna for what she is doing. “This is what we are all about. We have been given an opportunity, It’s also our time to use that opportunity to give back to the community. I want to thank the almighty for the heart he has given Esna and those who have supported her so that these kids will have a chance. One day they will look back and give back to society,” concluded Arasa.
