Minto Foundation is keen to partner with Kisii Woman Representative Dorice Donya Aburi to address increasing cases of teenage pregnancies and Female Genital Mutilation which is still rampant in Kisii County.
Minto Foundation board member Wycliffe Nyachae Ombui said they will work together with the Woman Representative to empower girls and address the challenges they are facing.
“We are here to give our support in the initiative. We need to empower women right from this stage. Social economic issue is one of the pillar in the Minto Foundation,” said Ombui.

He added: “We need to stop this practice of FGM because it’s backward and a deterrent to the development of the girlchild both physically, emotionally and mentally.”
He spoke at Nduru Girls during the launch of the anti-FGM Campaign by the office of Woman Representative. Nominated MP Renee Nyakerario also graced the function.
“We have initiatives in education and we want to team up with Mama County. Going forward, we shall pull resources to address the challenges facing girls,” he noted.
Aburi will be one of the speakers at the inaugural Minto Foundation conference which will be held at Renaissance Dallas North Hotel in Texas USA on September 1 and 2.

“She is a big collaborator in many aspects. Part of the agenda at the conference is what are we going to do together to better the Kisii community. We want to be a solution to the problem,” he noted.
Aburi said more than 50 percent of women who attend antenatal clinics at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital are girls aged between 12 and 17, More than 300 girls are being mentored at the school by professionals to curb gender-based violence, teenage pregnancies, drug abuse, and leadership. Ends
