A police officer in Ruiru town, Kiambu County has been arrested after his robbery attempts were discovered by members of the public.
The officer, who is of Inspector rank, was arrested by police officers who were manning Equity Bank Ruiru branch, where he ran for safety after a mob began chasing after him.
According to Alex, Shikondi, Ruiru police boss, the suspect, who was armed with a pistol, had robbed an M-pesa shop customer of Ksh.54,000 before an alarm was raised.
Responding to distress calls from the M-pesa operator, members of the public pursued the suspected robber who drew his gun and shot in the air before he tried to force his way into the Equity Bank where he was arrested.
Police did not immediately reveal the officer’s identity.
