Sultana actress ‘Dida’ , real name Winnie Bwire Ndubi

Actress Winnie Bwire Ndubi, known as Dida in Sultana, has passed away. She died while undergoing cancer treatment in Turkey.

On Thursday morning, her family released a statement. “It is with heavy heart and humble acceptance that we announce Winfred Bwire Ndubi lost her battle to cancer while undergoing treatment in Turkey,” the statement said. “We thank you all for your overwhelming support, prayers, and generosity.”

Bwire fought metastatic breast cancer for two years. She sought Ksh.7 million for specialized treatment abroad. In December 2023, she made a public appeal for financial help.

She spoke about the unpredictability of life. “Life can change in a moment,” she said. She noted the sudden shift from health to illness. Her treatment was very costly. Her family had exhausted all available resources.

In an interview with Citizen TV’s Lulu Hassan, Bwire opened up about her condition. She initially ignored early symptoms, thinking they were just stress-related. “I noticed my hand swelling and felt fatigued,” she recalled. She didn’t connect these signs to cancer.

Bwire was afraid she might lose her role as Dida due to misconceptions about chemotherapy. “Chemotherapy is often seen as traumatic,” she said. She wanted to continue working despite her illness.

Her recent plea for financial assistance came barely a month before her death. Ndubi sought Ksh.5 million to cover treatment costs, accommodation, and meals.

On August 14, she posted her last video on social media. She appealed for help from her fans. “If you can support me, I have nothing to give in return, but you will save my life,” she said. She aimed to convey hope, not sadness.
