PRESIDENT RUTO APPOINTS ELIUD OWALO, MOSES KURIA, AND DENNIS ITUMBI TO KEY STATE POSITIONS
Felix Koskei, the Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service, announced the government appointments on Friday evening in a move to give an additional boost to the Bottom-Up Economic Agenda of the Kenya Kwanza administration.
The former ICT Cabinet Secretary, Eliud Owalo, becomes the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Performance and Delivery Management.
“Amongst other roles, this ministerial level appointment shall be responsible for effective and efficient implementation, monitoring and evaluation of priority projects and initiatives of the 5th administration in line with the BETA Plan,” Koskei said. “Further, the office is charged with overseeing performance of Government Ministries, Departments & Agencies in service delivery.
Koskei further disclosed that former Public Service CS Moses Kuria is now a Senior Adviser in President Ruto’s Council of Economic Advisers. “The experience of Moses Kuria will offer immense input to our economic policies and strategies,” said Koskei.
Dennis Itumbi, on the other hand, was posted to head the Creative Economy and Special Projects in the Executive Office of the President.
“This appointment shall foster this administration’s zeal of innovation and growth towards a robust yet novel sector in the economic sphere, ” added Mr Koskei.
Owalo and Kuria were among those who had lost Cabinet roles when President Ruto fired all ministers on July 11, 2024, amid weeks of protests against the government.
A number of ministers were reappointed in the ensuing days after their dismissal, and Owalo and Kuria did not make it in the list of those returning.
Itumbi was previously sworn in as the ICT Chief Administrative Secretary in March last year but lost the slot following a High Court ruling that the position was unconstitutional.
