Top police officers will converge in Nairobi on Friday to discuss how they will prevent corruption from within. The meeting called by Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome will be addressed by President William Ruto.
This follows his directive to various government departments to come up with measures to tame graft. Police headquarters called the meeting of all top commanders to Nairobi to consult on how to prevent graft in the public service.
“The president will hold a discussion with National Police Service to reach consensus on preventive measures and improve government in the service,” read part of a memo in the service.
All regional traffic police commanders and divisional traffic officers have been ordered to attend the meeting. Head of Public Service Felix Koskei had announced the government had established a Multi-agency team to combat corruption in the country. Koskei said the President has directed him to improve governance and ensure zero tolerance for corruption.
“We want clear personal responsibility as the President has directed. This will be the new approach in town,” he said.
In a circular dated May 23, 2023, Koskei said the President will deal firmly with incidents of corruption among Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries and top government officials. “In line with the President’s proclamation, it is hereby reiterated that those responsible for the management of public resources will be held personally accountable for any loss or misuse of public resources”.
