Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has filed a censure motion against President William Ruto in the Senate, citing the Head of State’s failure to address critical issues affecting Kenyans.
Maanzo argued that Ruto, while serving as Chair of the National Security Council, failed to protect citizens during anti-government protests in Nairobi.

“Worried that Article 25(a) (c) has provisions for rights and fundamental freedoms that CANNOT be limited; freedom from torture or degrading treatment,” said Maanzo.
He cited the recent cases of abductions, torture, and disappearance of Kenyans as proof of the President’s failure.
Senator Maanzo also accused Ruto of failing to manage government services. He reasoned that the President had failed to ensure Kenyans get improved services from devolved units.
He also accused the President of delaying the disbursement of money to counties.
“I am concerned that William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, has failed to protect Kenyans against police brutality and killings,” Maanzo said.
He added, “Ruto has reduced county allocations and delayed financing to devolved units, causing suffering to Kenyans by failing to devolve health and agriculture.”
Maanzo also accused Ruto of overseeing flagship government projects without involving the public.
The senator maintained that a large number of Kenyans had been alienated by lack of representation in SHIF, University education fees module and other relevant projects.
“Further concerned that President Ruto’s breach of the Constitution has marginalised sections of Kenyans and heightened tension due to lack of proper public participation,” Maanzo added.
This censure motion is coming on the backdrop of an impeachment motion that will be moved against the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, which is expected to be tabled in Parliament on October 1.
