A tragedy occurred on Saturday, November 9, when one student of Shiners Boys High School was stabbed to death during a fight. The Gilgil Sub-County Police Commander, Winstone Mwakio, was able to confirm the altercation. The suspect was among four students recently allowed back to sit for their exams after suspension due to disciplinary actions against them.

The fight occurred after the suspect and the victim returned to school and found their belongings damaged. Mwakio told Citizen Digital, “The four had been suspended for indiscipline cases.” He added that an incident of this nature showed there was still much work to be done on discipline at the school.

The suspect later escaped from the scene reportedly with the knife he used to attack. Though police have identified three students who were involved in the assault, the main suspect is still on the run. The victim was rushed to Nakuru Level 6 Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The body was later transferred to Nakuru Morgue, where a post-mortem is expected. This death adds to the growing list of students who have tragically died during the ongoing KCSE exams.

In another incident, a KCSE candidate from Kakamega named Eugene Makale died due to severe throat pain. Makale had a chronic sore throat that made the swallowing and eating of any substance almost impossible. He, however, couldn’t seek proper medication due to financial constraints.

His parents recounted how they tried to save their son with teary eyes. His teachers and students blamed his death on the withdrawal of the EduAfya program that was offering free medical services to the less fortunate students.
