A sightseeing trip turned tragic when a light aircraft crash claimed the lives of 26-year-old doctor Sulaymaan Al Majid and the pilot in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE. The accident, which occurred near the Cove Rotana Hotel, has left Sulaymaan’s family in deep grief as they recount their devastating final moments with him.
A Heartbreaking Loss
Dr. Sulaymaan Al Majid, a promising young doctor, had rented the aircraft for a sightseeing experience. The tragedy struck shortly after takeoff from the Jazirah Aviation Club at around 2 p.m. His family, who accompanied him to witness the flight, shared their painful memories of the day.
Sulaymaan’s father, Majid Mukarram, recounted their initial uncertainty when they were informed the glider had lost radio contact. “At first, we were told it had made an emergency landing, and the occupants were taken to the hospital,” he said.
When the family arrived at the hospital, they learned that resuscitation efforts were underway. Tragically, Sulaymaan succumbed to his injuries by 4:30 p.m., leaving his loved ones shattered.
A Promising Career Cut Short
Sulaymaan was remembered as a compassionate and ambitious individual. A clinical fellow at the County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust in the UK, he had earned respect for his leadership roles, including serving as Honorary Secretary and Co-Chair of the Northern Resident Doctors Committee of the British Medical Association.
Born and raised in the UAE, Sulaymaan’s sudden demise has left a void in the lives of his family, who were eagerly planning to celebrate the New Year together.
Pilot Among the Victims
The crash also claimed the life of the 26-year-old pilot, a Pakistani woman. Investigations by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) are underway to determine the cause of the accident.
