Vice President Kamala Harris unveiled her national cannabis legalization plan. She said she would “break down unjust legal barriers that hold Black men back.”
Among the policy proposal by Harris would be to create a National Health Equity Initiative for African American men. This will extend to provide loan assistance to Black entrepreneurs.
“We will create 1 million fully forgivable loans of up to $20,000,” Harris said. “These loans will get African American entrepreneurs being able to actually thrive.”
Her campaign promises to invest in programs through the Department of Education. The effort, she said, would include partnerships with historically Black colleges and universities. The goal: Put more Black male teachers in public schools.
“The health initiative will address ailments such as sickle cell disease, diabetes, and prostate cancer,” Harris said. “These are ills that often plague Black men.”
Cedric Richmond, Co-Chair of the Campaign, had positive remarks about the initiative. “This agenda furthers Vice President Harris’s Opportunity Economy,” he said. “It’s an economy where people don’t just get by; they get ahead.”
Richmonds said that’s about having the tools to help Black men. “We want them to buy homes, take care of their families, start businesses, and build wealth,” he added.
