Activist and social media influencer Scophine Aoko Otieno, popularly known as Maverick Aoko, has gone missing.
In a tweet from her aide, it was insinuated that Aoko was probably in hiding. This move came after she tweeted about a powerful government figure referred to as “F.”

The family of Aoko, however said they had no information about her whereabouts. They claimed they were afraid of approaching the police over threats against Aoko.
“After the tweet on Mr. ‘F,’ she went incognito. We thought it was normal, perhaps she wanted just to confuse enemies. We still do not know her whereabouts,” the aide tweeted.
“Whom do we report to? The same police who told her lawyers, ‘We are coming for her’?” the aide added.
The family says it is praying that Aoko is safe. If she has been kidnapped, they are asking police to release her.
“If they took her, we are asking that they produce her. If she is hiding, we pray that she is safe and will reach out discreetly,” the family said.
According to the aide, Aoko decided to stay in her village after her release from prison; she travelled to Nairobi only for court sessions.
“Hello, this is Aoko’s aide. I’m tweeting using her account with her dad’s blessings. After her arrest, she opted to stay with family, only going to Nairobi for meetings & court, the aide tweeted.
The aide said that Aoko’s house in Nairobi was broken into two weeks ago. Aoko did not say anything, so as not to attract attention that she was in town.
“She came to Nairobi and found her main door clobbered at the hinges. I asked her to take pictures and leave,” the aide said.
The aide further reported that Aoko’s security officer noted some strange men asking about her whereabouts.
“Her caretaker and watchman reported men hovering around, asking about her,” the aide added.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino also confirmed Aoko’s disappearance.
“Aoko has gone missing for days. I have reached out to her family and friends, but nobody knows where she is!” Babu Owino said.
On social media, many questioned why the judiciary was silent over Aoko’s disappearance.
