A coordinated security operation in Isiolo County has led to the seizure of bhang valued at Sh6 million, with the suspects evading capture by fleeing into nearby bushes.

Acting on a public tip, a multi-agency team intercepted the illicit cargo in Garbatula Subcounty, furthering their ongoing campaign against drugs and illicit brews in the region.
Isiolo County Police Commander Moses Mutisya reported that the operation targeted a four-wheel drive vehicle near Camp Samaki. Upon approaching, the vehicle’s driver and a passenger abandoned it, escaping on foot near Eldera. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the bhang, which was reportedly en route to a neighboring county.
Following the incident, police detained the vehicle’s owner from Meru Town, who is expected to provide further information regarding the individuals involved and details about the vehicle’s use.
Commander Mutisya confirmed the crackdown on drug traffickers and illicit brew sellers will continue, citing recent arrests, including a 40-year-old woman in possession of 40 rolls of bhang and another individual in Bulapesa village with 20 rolls. Both suspects have been charged in court.
Additionally, a woman accused of administering hard drugs to local youth was arrested with drug injection paraphernalia, including syringes and gloves. Although she managed to escape custody before her court appearance, police are actively pursuing her and anticipate re-arresting her shortly.
Commander Mutisya advised parents to closely monitor their children, especially during the upcoming holiday season, to prevent them from engaging in harmful behaviors. He assured residents that regular police patrols will continue to ensure community safety and encouraged local leaders, including chiefs and Nyumba Kumi elders, to promptly report any suspicious activities to the authorities for swift action.
Mutisya also addressed last weekend’s cattle rustling incident, which left three dead and five injured. He noted that over 200 of the 250 stolen livestock have been recovered, with security forces still tracking down the remaining animals and suspects involved.
