Pastor Allegedly Attacks Wife Over Infidelity Accusations

Elias Njau, a local pastor, allegedly attacked his wife, Shiku, leaving her with severe injuries to her hands and fingers. The violent altercation reportedly erupted after Shiku confronted him about alleged infidelity involving a female congregant.

Currently receiving treatment at a Nakuru hospital, Shiku’s injuries were described as extensive, with hospital images revealing stitches on her hands and fingers.

Rongai Police Commander Cecilia Kemboi confirmed the incident and assured the public that investigations are underway to locate and apprehend Njau.

Gender-Based Violence on the Rise

This incident comes amid an alarming surge in gender-based violence and femicide across the country. President William Ruto has recently voiced his concern about the escalating violence targeting women.

During his State of the Nation Address on November 21, 2024, President Ruto condemned the trend, emphasizing the government’s commitment to combating GBV.

“Many women across our nation are living in fear due to increasing acts of brutality and impunity. If these incidents go unchecked, women will feel unsafe even within their own homes,” President Ruto stated.

Government Allocates Sh100 Million to Fight GBV

As part of its efforts to address GBV, the government has allocated Sh100 million to initiatives aimed at supporting survivors. These measures include:

  • Establishing safe homes across the country for victims.
  • Providing medical care and psychological support.
  • Strengthening resources for GBV survivors.

Speaking at State House during a meeting with women leaders, President Ruto expressed his hope that perpetrators of GBV crimes will face the full force of the law.
