Maina Muturi, a long time motorsports administrator, was on 24th August 2023 Friday night elected the New Cairman of Kenya Motor Sports Federation (KMSF) during the federation’s directors meeting held at Kasarani Stadium, Nairobi.
Muturi, who is also the East African Motor Sports Club chairman, has replace Phineas Kimathi whose term ended in November 2022 but held the position temporarily in order to oversee a successful hosting of the World Rally Championship [WRC] Safari Rally 2023.
Kimathi who opted not to defend his seat in the elections will however continue serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the World Rally Championship [WRC] Safari Rally which is a round of the Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC).
The immediate KMSF boss is also a member of the FIA World Rally Championship committee and will also continue to serve as the KMSF Director, representing Rally Sports Club.
Muturi’s first task will be to improve the number of entries in the local circuit, a challenge he embraced gladly in his acceptance speech.
“There is a lot of work to be done especially on the KNRC where we need to increase the number of participants. We will sit down as a federation and map on new strategies.”
The KMSF directors also elected new chairpersons of various motorsports commissions to enhance division of labour and help the chairman to concentrate on policy matters.
