Dennis Onkangi has been named the Gusii FC interim coach following the departure of Kassim Junior Otieno.
Onkangi has been Otieno’s assistant at the National Super League side and will be in charge of the game against Nairobi United, said Gusii FC chairman Paul Mayieko.
Otieno joined the Division One side Michael Olunga Foundation Academy (MOFA). He replaces George Lio who re-joined National Super League side Vihiga Bullets.
He has been given the target of guiding the Michael Olunga-sponsored academy to the National Super League next season.
Mayieko said they have advertised the position of the coach and they hope to unveil him by next week. “We want someone with at least a CAF C qualification. The coach must have coached in NSL,” he said.
Mayieko added that he didn’t expect Otieno to leave just two games into the new season. “It came as a shock but we wish him well at MOFA,” noted Mayieko.
Gusii FC drubbed Vihiga Bullets 5-1 in their opening game of the season before succumbing to a 1-0 loss against Mombasa Elite. They take on onform Nairobi United on Saturday at Thika Stadium. Nairobi United is unbeaten after two encounters.
At the same time, former Gor Mahia coach Zdravko Logarusic is set to take over as head coach of Moneybags Kenya Police, according to reports.
The reports indicated that he will be unveiled on Thursday to take over from Francis Baraza.
Baraza was sent on leave last week following Kenya Police’s poor start of the season. Despite signing big names in the last few seasons, Kenya Police is yet to record a win in the Kenya Premier League. Ends
