Teen Violence on the Rise: Multiple Stabbings and Fatal Altercations Shake Communities

Kenyan communities are on edge following a troubling increase in violent incidents involving teenagers. This past week alone saw several stabbings that ended in tragic deaths, leaving families devastated and prompting police investigations.

Tragic Stabbing in Eldoret Over Pets

In Eldoret, a shocking incident unfolded when a dispute over pet doves turned fatal. A 16-year-old boy was stabbed in the chest by a 12-year-old after an argument escalated. According to police reports, the younger boy allegedly used a kitchen knife to stab the older teen, who was rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital but tragically died from his injuries. The suspect has since been detained, and an investigation is ongoing.

School Violence Leads to Fatal Stabbing in Nakuru

In another incident, violence erupted at Shiners Boys High School in Nakuru, where a KCSE candidate was fatally stabbed by a fellow student. Security officials report that the suspect, recently readmitted after disciplinary issues, was involved in an altercation over damaged personal items. Police say that, after a heated exchange, the suspect allegedly used a broken piece of glass to fatally stab the victim, who was later declared dead at Nakuru Level 6 Hospital. Authorities have detained eight students in connection with the incident, five of whom are currently taking their exams under police supervision at the Mbaruk police post.

Grisly Discovery in Kiambaa: 19-Year-Old Woman Found Murdered

Elsewhere, a 19-year-old woman, Sharon Atieno (also known as Nicole), was discovered dead in a banana plantation in Kiambaa after disappearing from her home. Friends reported that she left her residence around 10 p.m. for a walk and a phone call but never returned. Her mutilated body was discovered the next day in Gachorwe village, sparking a homicide investigation. Police are still working to uncover the motive behind her brutal murder.

Fatal Road Accidents Add to Grim Statistics

This week’s crime report also includes two fatal hit-and-run accidents. An unidentified woman was killed while crossing Lang’ata Road near Uhuru Gardens. Similarly, 35-year-old Reuben Mwaura was struck and killed by a vehicle on the Nairobi-Naivasha highway. Both drivers fled the scene, and police are calling for witnesses to come forward with any information.

Spike in Suicide Cases Across Counties

Additionally, the past week has seen a rise in suicide cases, with two men in Kisumu and Nyeri Counties reportedly ending their lives. In Ahenyo village, Maurice Omondi Onyango, 39, was found hanging from a tree with no note left behind. In Nyeri’s Kieni East, 53-year-old Paul Maina Gakuru reportedly ingested herbicides before hanging himself. The bodies have been moved to respective mortuaries as investigations continue.

With an alarming rise in violent crimes and tragic deaths, authorities are urging the public to report any suspicious behavior and seek help in handling conflicts, particularly among teenagers. The wave of violent incidents highlights an urgent need for community awareness and mental health support to prevent further tragedies.
