A tragic firearm mishandling incident unfolded at Kapcherany Trading Centre in Bomet County, where an Officer Commanding Station (OCS) allegedly discharged his weapon accidentally, injuring a bar attendant.

The officer, reportedly stationed in Trans Nzoia County, was said to be demonstrating the firearm’s functionality to a companion during a drinking session when the gun went off, striking the attendant in the stomach.

Victim Hospitalized for Severe Injuries

The injured bar attendant was rushed to Litein Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for a critical gunshot wound. Medical personnel have confirmed the injuries are serious but are optimistic about his recovery.

Police Respond to Incident

Bomet County Deputy Police Commandant Jamleck Ngaruiya revealed that officers from Kapletundo Police Station quickly responded to the scene. They secured the area, collected witness statements, and recorded details from the pub owner.

The OCS was immediately disarmed and taken into custody for questioning. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting to determine how the firearm was mishandled.
