Coach Kimani joins Ulinzi as goalkeeper Wanyika signs for Shabana - Kenyan News

Ulinzi Stars have installed former defender Anthony ‘Modo’ Kimani as their head coach.

Kimani who parted ways with Bandari in May after a string of poor results takes over from Benerd Mwalala who left Ulinzi for KCB. At KCB, Mwalala took over from Zedekiah Zico Otieno.

Kimani was on Wednesday evening unveiled by Ulinzi Stars Chairman Colonel Eliud Were at the club’s home ground Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.

Kimani will be charged with winning titles for the perennial underachieving soldiers.

He started his career at AFC Leopards as an assistant coach to Rwandese Andre Cassa Mbungo.

They then moved together to Bandari in 2021 and was elevated as acting head coach after the Rwandese were shown the door.

At the same time, former Bandari FC goalkeeper Michael Wanyika has joined newly promoted Kenya Premier League side Shabana.

Wanyika reported to the Kisii-based side’s training base at Kiendege primary school on Wednesday. He will compete with regulars Mustapha Oduor and Eric Ongiri. Oduor and Ongiri were part of Shabana’s team that helped the Glamour Boys return to the Kenya Premier League.

Wanyika joins former compatriots striker Johanna Mwita and defender Rodgers Aloro who have already joined Shabana. Other new signings are former Kakamega Homeboyz left-back Hillary Wandera and Nzoia Sugar FC defender Prince Ayieko.

The club is seeking to sign at least 10 players in the current transfer window, according to coach Sammy Okoth.
