The Carabao Cup defense for Erik ten Hag’s Reds will start with a third-round matchup against Crystal Palace at home.

Old Trafford will host the game, which will take place the week of September 25. Seven months have passed since United’s 2-0 victory against Newcastle United in the competition’s February championship game.

The draw, which was broadcast live on Sky Sports after the final second-round match was completed, was presided over by host Emma Saunders, and the teams were eliminated by former Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore and recently retired England Lioness Izzy Christiansen.

The Premier League match versus Palace in M16 is already booked for the weekend following the cup match (30 September), so our match against them at the Theatre of Dreams will be the first of two back-to-back games.

Additionally, it will come one week after our first Champions League group-stage match of the season, for which the draw will be made tomorrow (Thursday, 17:00 BST).

There are five Premier League matches in the third round, and when we face Roy Hodgson’s team, we’ll be hoping to get off to a good start in our tournament defense. They defeated Championship team Plymouth Argyle 4-2 in the second round on Tuesday night, giving them four points from their first three league games.
