A Kisii court has ordered a paternity test on the late Zepedeo Opore, former Bonchari MP, following a legal dispute brought by a woman claiming that her children are Opore’s

The court ruling delays the burial, initially set for Friday, to allow for DNA samples to be taken from Opore’s body to determine the paternity of the two children.
The woman, Roseangela Nkirote, alleged that she and her children had been excluded from the funeral arrangements. In response, Kisii Senior Principal Magistrate B.O. Omwansa ruled that Nkirote and her children must be included in Saturday’s burial ceremony, while DNA samples are collected at Lee Funeral Home for analysis at Aga Khan Hospital.
The ruling led to senior politicians, including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, postponing their planned attendance as they awaited the court’s decision on the burial. Opore’s burial will proceed at his family home in Riana, Bonchari, Kisii County, with police instructed to ensure Nkirote and her children’s security and full participation.
This development followed Nkirote’s lawsuit against members of the Opore family on November 4, seeking her family’s recognition in the burial proceedings. The court’s resolution of the case now clears the way for Opore’s burial while ensuring a future paternity determination.
