New details have emerged surrounding the tragic death of 27-year-old Conrad Nyabuto, who was brutally stabbed 27 times on his birthday in Ruiru, Kiambu County. Nyabuto, an ICT specialist, was buried on December 27, 2024, in a somber ceremony in his home village of Kigoro, Kisii. Family members have since shared insights into the final days leading up to his death.

A Relationship Turned Deadly
The key suspect in Nyabuto’s murder is a 24-year-old woman believed to have been his girlfriend at the time. According to relatives, Conrad had been contemplating ending the relationship in the days before his death. One family member disclosed that Nyabuto had confided in his female friends about wanting to break up with his girlfriend, describing the relationship as “a real pain in his life.”
Fatal Confrontation
On December 23, Nyabuto reportedly visited his girlfriend’s house to end the relationship, but an altercation soon escalated. The confrontation tragically ended with the suspect stabbing Nyabuto 27 times in the back, chest, and throat, a crime that appears to have been committed in a fit of passion.
A post-mortem confirmed that Nyabuto died from excessive bleeding due to the multiple stab wounds.
Investigation and Aftermath
The woman suspected of murdering Nyabuto also sustained stab wounds during the incident and is currently under 24-hour surveillance at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital as she recovers. The family has called for the authorities to be given the space to conduct their investigations without any interference.
Nyabuto’s death is part of a worrying trend in Kenya, where crimes of passion, particularly involving romantic relationships, have led to a rise in fatalities, with many of the victims being women.
