A family in Saika, Nairobi, is grappling with the untimely and gruesome death of their son, Conrad Nyabuto, who succumbed to multiple stab wounds in a chilling incident involving his estranged girlfriend on December 17, 2024.

Conrad’s visit to address relationship issues turned into a horrifying tragedy, leaving behind unanswered questions and a family determined to seek justice amidst delays and claims of interference.

Disputed Claims of Self-Defence

The suspect, identified as Nyabuto’s former girlfriend, alleged that her actions were in self-defence. However, the family has dismissed these claims as implausible due to the extreme nature of the attack, which resulted in 27 stab wounds.

“This wasn’t self-defence. It was an act of brutality. The way he was attacked, it’s like someone fighting for their life against a wild animal,” remarked Conrad’s father.

Suspicions of High-Level Interference

The family alleges that external influences are affecting the progress of the investigation, further complicating their quest for justice.

“We’ve heard that certain influential people may be trying to derail the case. All we ask for is a fair investigation and justice for our son,” the father pleaded.

Details of the Incident

The tragedy unfolded at the suspect’s residence in Kamakis, Nairobi, where Conrad had gone to have a conversation about ending their relationship. When the police arrived at the scene, they faced significant delays as the suspect reportedly refused to open the door.

It took officers two hours to break into the house, where they found Conrad already dead from excessive bleeding. The suspect was discovered with self-inflicted injuries, including cuts on her wrists.

“The delay in gaining entry cost precious time that could have been used to save our son’s life. By the time they got in, it was too late,” Conrad’s mother recounted tearfully.

Court Hearing Scheduled

The suspect is in custody and is scheduled to take a plea at the Thika High Court. However, the family has expressed frustration over what they see as a slow-moving judicial process.

Broader Concerns About Relationship Violence

Conrad’s tragic death is one of several recent cases involving domestic disputes escalating to violence. Earlier in December, a young medical student in Kitale also lost his life after being stabbed by his girlfriend, just days before his scheduled graduation.

A Family’s Plea for Justice

As the court process unfolds, Conrad’s family is holding onto hope for a fair trial. They believe that justice for their son will bring some measure of peace to their grieving hearts.

“We know we can never bring him back, but at least justice will help us move forward as a family,” said his father.
