In a sweeping operation across Samburu and Isiolo counties, Kenyan police forces recovered over 590 stolen cattle, while five people, including suspected bandits, lost their lives in the clashes.


The operation, which also saw five individuals injured, was conducted by a multi-agency team from the National Police Service (NPS) to curb the surge in livestock theft.
Armed Bandit Attack in Bojidare
Around 2:30 a.m. in Bojidare, an unidentified group of bandits raided local manyattas, wielding assault rifles and making off with 250 cows and 300 goats. The multi-agency police team, composed of Kenya Police, the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU), and National Police Reservists (NPR), quickly pursued the raiders, successfully recovering 300 goats and 30 cows. During the incident, two people were killed and three others injured, who were later taken to Isiolo District Hospital. The deceased were returned to their families for burial in line with Muslim customs.
Hola Bule Attack and Recovery
In a separate attack in the Hola Bule area, armed bandits stormed a home, shooting and seizing 19 cattle. Responding swiftly, NPS and NPR officers managed to recover all 19 animals. One individual was fatally shot, while two others, including an NPR officer, sustained gunshot wounds. The deceased’s body was moved to Isiolo County Hospital Mortuary.
Samburu East Recovery and Confrontation
In Samburu County’s River Waso area, two bandits were fatally shot during a standoff with police. A total of 211 stolen cattle were recovered during this encounter, underscoring the intensity of the efforts by security forces to reclaim stolen livestock and ensure community safety.
Heightened Security Efforts in Isiolo
Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service, Gilbert Masengeli, alongside the Eastern Regional Security team, arrived in Isiolo to coordinate ongoing operations and address the escalating security situation. Reinforcements from Isiolo Police Station, ASTU, and NPR have been deployed, while the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has initiated an investigation into the incidents.
Police have expressed gratitude to the public for supporting the operations, as authorities continue to work toward restoring peace and security in these regions.
